The small chapel of Notre-Dame-de-Laval in Caudies de Fenouilledes is located just t south-east of the town. It sits on a small hill in tranquil countryside and these days it is used less as a place of worship than a tourist attraction. There is a picnic area outside the chapel and many come to take photos of the fountain and the unique features of the chapel such as the entrance.

The chapel dates back to the 15th century and originally there was also an an oratory on this site. There is a single nave in the chapel and the carved altarpiece dates back to the same time. The marble tabernacle was added in the 18th century. Interesting features within the chapel include paintings and icons, some of which date back to the time of the chapel’s construction.

Today the chapel is managed and cared for by a local volunteer and it is often used as a starting point for walks around the nearby countryside. The volunteer has overseen some recent restoration work on both the chapel and the fountain and there are now carefully maintained gardens here too.
